Global Challenge UK had a very exciting & busy 2006.
GCUK worked with a host of charities throughout the year where we either event
managed or supported them on their Challenge Events. Please see below for further details of some
of the things Global Challenge UK got up to in 2006!
The Duke of Edinburgh's 3 Peaks Challenge - 13th - 14th May
Global Challenge teamed up with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award,
and supported their
3 Peaks Challenge by providing all of the communications & logistics support on their event.
The Lloyd's Register 24 Peaks Challenge in support of Seafarers UK - 20th - 21st May
Following the successful running of their 3 Peaks Challenge in 2005,
Global Challenge UK entirely event managed the inaugural running of
the Seafarers UK 24 peaks challenge in 2006.
GCUK brought their experience and expertise to this challenge, ensuring that all of the team's
safety was paramount whilst taking part, providing briefings, equipment lists, advice on training
etc. before the event and all of the control, communications and marshalling during the weekend.
Even the after challenge reception dinner & disco (for those with energy still to spare!) was
catered for. This was a tough event for the participating teams who were challenged to climb 24
peaks over 2,400ft in 24 hours!
The Railway Children Brecon Challenge - 10th June
The Brecon Challenge provided a challenge to teams on two levels. The main focus for
the participating teams was to raise funds on behalf of
the Railway Children. In addition, the
days activities saw them mountain biking on the Taff trail, walk the Pen-y-Fan horseshoe
and raft-build on one of the prettiest reservoirs in Wales, all within 12 hours. GCUK were
delighted to work with the Railway Children again, event managing this exciting
event on their behalf. Prior to, and throughout the event we brought our expertise to the fore
ensuring that all of the usual safety personnel & marshals were on hand as well as our radio
control network from Challenge Base. The participants reward was not only the after event
reception and disco, but a celebratory trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway!
The Sight Savers Rotary Mountain Challenge - 24th - 25th June
Following the successful running
of this event in 2003, Sight Savers International
asked GCUK to organise & event manage
this mountain challenge again on their behalf. The event saw teams recruited from the
various Rotary Clubs across the UK, raising funds for Sight Savers by climbing 3 mountains in
24 hours including the travelling! Starting in Scotland teams travelled south, closely
marshalled & encouraged by GCUK, finishing in North Wales having summitted Stob Ban,
Helvellyn & Snowdon. A well-earned celebratory reception meal was held in Llanberis for
all participating teams.
The Mitchemp Trust 3 Peaks Challenge - 1st - 2nd July
Our longstanding partnership with
the Miitchemp Trust continued. GCUK provided communications & logistics support to the Mitchemp Trust on their 3 Peaks Challenge,
ensuring that the participating teams completed the challenge in a safe manner whilst raising
funds for this worthwhile charity.
The National Deaf Children's Society 3 Peaks Challenges - 15th - 16th July & 5th - 6th August
Global Challenge UK were delighted to work with
the NDCS
again in 2006. GCUK supported their 3 Peaks Challenges, by providing all of the communications
and control at each location throughout these events, along with ensuring that highly
experienced mountain leaders marshaled all of the 3 peaks.
The WH Smith Trust 3 Peaks Challenge - 9th - 10th September
Working with
the WH Smith Trust and
Mitchemp Trust on the inaugural running of a combined 3 Peaks Challenge, saw GCUK provide communications
support to them both.
Ensuring that the participating teams completed the challenge in a safe manner whilst raising
funds for these worthwhile charities.
The Railway Children 3 Peaks Challenge by train - 21st - 23rd September
After the successes of the last 2 years running of
The Railway Children 3 peaks Challenge by
rail, Global Challenge UK once again provided our full
communications & event management support for 2006. GCUK not only provided all of the
communications support and challenge bases at each location but also experienced Event
Managers travelled on the train with the teams to ensure that the event ran as smoothly &
safely as ever (despite the weather conditions preventing teams from completing Snowdon).
We would like to congratulate all of the participants on these events. We hope that
you thoroughly enjoyed the experience and raised as much funds as possible, due to all of your hard work,
for these very worthwhile charities.
Well Done!
