This unique event was designed for Focus Ireland by Global Challenge UK.
The Challenge was for each team to raise at least £5,000 for the services provided by
Focus Ireland throughout the country. In addition the teams had to climb the four highest
mountains in Ireland, Scotland, England & Wales!
In total 11 teams took part in the event on 15th - 18th August 2003.
Beginning with a dawn ascent of Carrauntoohil (3,414ft) the teams then drove north to Belfast
where they boarded a ferry to Stranraer. Driving through the night they began their ascent of
Ben Nevis (4,406ft) early on Saturday morning. With little time to rest they headed straight for
the Lake District and Scafell Pike (3,206ft). Now came a brief respite as the earliest ascent time
for Snowdon (3,560ft) in North Wales was set for 09.00 on the Monday morning.
A well earned party and traditional Irish sing-song rounded off a spectacular event.
Focus Ireland aims to advance the right of people-out-of-home to live in a place they call
home through quality services, research, and advocacy. Practically this involves the provision
of short and long-term housing aswell as family assistance programmes, childcare provision and
much more besides.
Caroline Hickson, Director of Fundraising for Focus said:
"For our first challenge event outside Ireland, we could not have been in better
hands than Global Challenge. Organisation was excellent, particularly safety, and we and our
teams were delighted with the whole event."
