The Railway Children teamed up with Global Challenge UK to stage The Railway Children
3 Peaks Challenge in September 2004.
The inaugural running of the Railway Children 3 peaks Challenge saw 50 teams of four people
set the task of climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike & Ben Nevis all within approximately 60 hours
and travelling by train in between the mountains!
Global Challenge UK provided all of the communications support and control at each location as
well as providing Event Managers travelling with the teams to ensure that the event ran smoothly.
The event had been many months in the planning and with the fantastic support of Network Rail,
Virgin, EWS etc. it was a tremendous success raising in excess of £100,000 for The Railway
Children, whose work is important helping runaway and abandoned children who live in and around
the world's railway stations. Working through partner organisations, the charity offers shelter,
healthcare, education, training, protection and, above all, friendship.
Global Challenge UK was delighted to support the Railway Children on the first running
of this unique event.
Team feedback included:
"The global Challenge staff were superb"
"Impeccable"
"They kept us safe"
"Superb! Always felt in control & confident with the support around"
Katie Mason, Events Manager at the Railway Children, wrote:
"On behalf of the Railway Children I am writing to thank you for all you did to
contribute to the huge success of the Three Peaks Challenge. We couldn't have done it
without you. Your calm, organised approach was fantastic."
