An alternative to the 3 Peak formula, and possibly more demanding,
is a multi peak event based over 24 hours. These are based in one area, the
Lake District or Snowdonia for example, and entail participating teams taking
in a number of peaks in a 24-hour period. In the Lake District we set participating teams a tough challenge of climbing 24 peaks over 2,400 feet all within a 24 hour window! In Snowdonia, the challenge is to climb a number of peaks along a route the same distance as a road marathon - 26 miles, all within 24 hours!
See the Centrica case study.
The format for these types of tough challenges means, having organised their own accommodation for the previous night,
(lists of suitable accommodation can be provided) teams assemble at 'early
o'clock' on Saturday morning. Teams start at 5-minute intervals following their
registration & equipment check along with their safety and communications
briefs. They will have to negotiate a number of peaks before they finally
descend, late in the evening. The route will take in some spectacular scenery
and, although large parts of the route will be based upon well-defined ridges,
height gained and lost throughout the day will be significant!
Teams will deserve a well-earned rest that night, normally in a
local youth hostel, where an evening meal and bed will be provided.
All too soon however, at even 'earlier o'clock', participants will
be awoken in order to grab breakfast before they start the second day. This
will entail another long day of mountain ridges.
An after event presentation ceremony & meal can be organised
by Global Challenge UK on the Sunday evening at a nearby venue (again, lists of
suitable accommodation can be provided), and for those left with an ounce of
energy this can be followed by a post event disco!
Each day will last approximately 12 hours, and once both have been
completed, teams will feel well placed to return to their sponsors on Monday
morning in order to collect their hard earned sponsorship funds.
